Biblical (Nouthetic) Counseling involves bringing HOPE by clarifying one’s reasoning so together we can reach God’s solution through biblical admonition. We called it the heart model of counseling. Because it is a heart matter, we can offer freedom through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit who is able to change our hearts.
The Goal of Biblical Soul Care:
Romans 13:1-3 I appeal to you brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. For through the grace given to me, I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
Nouthetic Scripture:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV ~ All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man/woman of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
Romans 15:13-14 ESV ~ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. I myself am satisfied with you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.
1 Corinthians 4:14 ESV ~ I do not write these things to make you ashamed but to admonish you as my beloved children.
Ephesians 4:15 ESV – Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
Colossians 1:28 ESV ~ Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
Colossians 3:16 ESV ~ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
II Timothy 2:24-25 ~ And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth…
